Frequently Asked Questions
How big are the parents of our puppies?
All of our parent dogs are listed on the "Aussie Family" page. There will be a description of each dog along with it's height and weigth. At WFF, our dogs are in the medium to large size for the Miniature Australian Shepherd range.
What colors are available at Weston Family Farms?
Depending on the parents of the litter available we offer these colors: Blue Merle, Red Merle, Black Tri (Black, White, Tan), Red Tri (Red, White, Tan). See color description image on this page...NOTE: these are not WFF dogs but included for education purposes.
The "Red" is commonly referred to as a brown or liver color. We have high standards for recognized breed colors and color markings in all our breeding pairs.
What do I feed the new puppy?
Provide good quality food and treats. Visit our page for Nutrition and order products we use and recommend.
Do Aussies shed?
Yes, they do. Regular brushing is the best method to combat shedding. Be sure to use a brush for a dog with a double coat as aussies have. Be gentle and take your time. It should be a pleasant experience that your dog will grow to love. Try this video for more instructions. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y1Hbt9BUSUQ&feature=share
What basic commands do we recommend to begin teaching a puppy?
Sit, Come. Down, Stay, Leave it
How often should I bathe our puppy?
Only when your puppy needs a bath. You will know! We recommend using the Revitalizing Shampoo from Life's Abundance. We love this shampoo and it can be ordered by clicking on the "Order Food" tab in the left column. Just look under the Pet Care products section.
What method of potty training should we use? When you start to house train, follow these steps:
- Keep the puppy on a regular feeding schedule and take away his food between meals.
- Take puppy out to eliminate first thing in the morning and then once every 30 minutes to an hour. ...
- Take puppy to the same spot each time to do his business.
- Always take your puppy out to potty after a play session with it.
Should I microchip the puppy?
Yes! We strongly recommend a microchip for the puppy. This should be done at the 9 week vet check up when your new puppy is ready for a booster shot.
